MEERUT: A Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) constable from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, provided an amusing explanation while responding to a disciplinary notice regarding his inappropriate behaviour. In his defence, the constable attributed the responsibility for his misconduct to his spouse.
“My wife gives me nightmares, which keep me awake at night and cause delays,” the constable has said in his response that has gone viral on social media.
Commandant of the 44th Battalion PAC, Sachindra Patel, stated on Wednesday that an inquiry has been ordered after the reply gained traction on social media.
Authorities are conducting an inquiry to verify the constable’s identity, validate his explanation and understand how the letter became viral on social media.
A formal notice dated February 17 was sent by Battalion In-Charge Dalnayak Madhusudan Sharma to the PAC constable, citing dereliction of duty.
The disciplinary notice highlighted multiple infractions, including tardiness at the February 16 morning briefing, poor grooming standards and regular absence from unit functions, which was considered a significant breach of protocol.
In his reply, the constable attributed his condition to sleeplessness caused by domestic conflicts with his spouse.
He claimed that in his dreams, “my wife sits on my chest and tries to drink my blood with the intent to kill me”.
Due to these circumstances, the constable experiences insomnia, causing delays in attending official briefings. He disclosed his ongoing treatment for depression and irritability, whilst also mentioning his mother’s nerve disorder, which adds to his emotional burden.
In his response, the constable expressed deep anguish, stating that he has lost his desire to live and “wishes to surrender” himself to god’s feet.
He appealed to his senior officers to help alleviate his distress by directing him towards spiritual enlightenment.
Officials are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the letter’s appearance on social media platforms.
