7 held for lynching of MP cop, hostage; CM faces Cong attack | India News – The Times of India

BHOPAL: Lynching of a cop during a rescue mission in MP’s Mauganj Saturday has triggered a political storm in BJP-governed Madhya Pradesh, with calls from opposition Congress to CM Mohan Yadav to give up home portfolio.
Police were deployed in strength in Gadra village Sunday, where a man was held captive and murdered, and a mob attacked the police rescue team, killing ASI Ramcharan Gautam. “We have arrested seven of the 25-30 accused and are looking for others,” Mauganj SP Rasna Thakur told TOI.
ASI Gautam and Sunny Dwivedi, the captive he had gone to rescue, were cremated Sunday. Prohibitory orders under BNS 163 continue to remain in force in Gadra.
Congress, referring to the incident said law and order had collapsed in MP. “When cops are being targeted, who will protect law and order. I urge the PM to ask CM Mohan Yadav to give up charge of home department,” PCC chief Jitu Patwari said, accusing police of “promoting the CM’s political agenda”.
