NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders‘ home match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 6 is set to be relocated to Guwahati after the police expressed their inability to provide security for the IPL fixture due to ‘Ram Navami’ celebrations in the city on the same day, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly told PTI on Thursday.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari had earlier announced that over 20,000 processions would be organised across West Bengal to mark the festival.
“We have informed the BCCI about rescheduling the match, but there is no possibility of hosting it in the city at a later date. Now, I’m hearing that it will be shifted to Guwahati,” Ganguly told PTI.
The highly anticipated clash between KKR and LSG, owned by RPSG Group chairman Sanjiv Goenka, was expected to attract a packed stadium, with both teams enjoying strong local support.
