CHANDIGARH: A purported video of Pastor Bajinder Singh, who is facing a sexual harassment case, slapping a woman and a man in a room that appeared to be some office, went viral on Sunday. The police have started a verification process to ascertain the place and time of the incident and are waiting for any complaint to act in the matter.
In the video, Bajinder is seen having an argument with a woman and a youngster in the room where several other people are also present. The video was sent to the special investigation team (SIT) headed by Phagwara superintendent of police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti by the woman who is a complainant in the sexual harassment case against him. Bhatti said the video did not pertain to her case and was being verified.
Apparently perturbed over something, an enraged Bajinder is first seen throwing what appears to be a mobile phone, one among several phones he is seen placing together on a table, towards the youngster who is sitting along with others in a row of chairs. The pastor then grabs a bag-like object lying nearby and throws it at the youngster before hitting him with his hands on his head. He then walks back to his chair, arguing and pointing fingers at a woman who is sitting on a sofa with a child.
Subsequently, after what appears to be a verbal argument between him and the woman, the pastor throws a bunch of papers at her. As things escalate and the woman stands up and both approach each other, Bajinder is seen slapping her, with others trying to diffuse the situation.
The argument between the pastor and the woman continues. Amid the argument, Bajinder is seen retreating towards his seat only to charge towards the youngster again, slapping him at least six times with both hands on either side of the youngster’s face as the latter is seen pleading and covering his face to save himself. In a fit of rage, Bajinder is also seen holding the youngster by his hair to hit him.
Jalandhar range deputy inspector general Naveen Singla said, “We are verifying the video. Although the video mentions Feb 14, 2025, as the date, we don’t know how authentic it is. Whether it is the same date or it is some older video, we are verifying that. The video shows a woman and a youth who appears to be a teenager being beaten up. There is no complaint as of now from their side. We will take action if there is any complaint and if the incident happened in our jurisdiction.”
The 43-year-old self-styled godman, held in high esteem by his followers for “miracle healing”, was booked by Kapurthala police in a case of sexual harassment, stalking, and criminal intimidation on Feb 28 on the complaint of a 22-year-old woman disciple who accused him of sending her inappropriate text messages and touching her inappropriately. Bajinder refuted the allegations, calling them “baseless”.
