Infosys has fired 240 additional entry-level employees who failed to pass internal assessment tests, according to company emails sent on April 18. This follows a similar round of layoffs in February when the IT giant let go of over 300 trainees.
“You have not met the qualifying criteria in the ‘Generic foundation training program’ despite the additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, several mock assessments and three attempts. As a result, you will not be able to continue your journey for the apprenticeship program,” stated the termination email sent today, April 18th, as reviewed by MoneyControl.
Infosys’ email to affected employees details multiple support options
The company is offering affected employees free upskilling programs through partnerships with NIIT and UpGrad, extending this opportunity to those dismissed in February as well. The company’s email explained that these programs are designed to “prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry” or to continue “honing your IT skills.”
“As you explore opportunities outside of Infosys, we have planned professional outplacement services to help you on that journey. We also wish to offer you another career pathway, by taking an Infosys sponsored external training to prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry. On successful completion of the training, you may also apply to available opportunities in Infosys BPM Limited. However, if you wish to continue honing your IT skills, you also have an option to choose an Infosys sponsored external training program on Information Technology fundamentals to further support your IT career journey,” read the email further.
Impacted trainees will receive one month’s pay, accommodation, and a travel allowance from Infosys’ Mysore training center to either Bengaluru or their hometown.
According to MoneyControl sources, approximately 730 trainees participated in their third and final assessment attempt on April 17 for the batch that joined in October 2024. Results for the next batch are expected next week.
Many of the affected trainees had waited over two years before being on boarded due to the macroeconomic slowdown that caused clients to reduce project spending. They were hired as System Engineers and Digital Specialist Engineers.
In addition to severance benefits, Infosys is providing “professional outplacement services” to help terminated employees “explore opportunities outside of Infosys,” according to the company email, demonstrating some effort to ease their transition despite the difficult circumstances.
