AHMEDABAD/VADODARA: Respite from downpours is expected to be short-lived as Gujarat braces for another round of heavy rain from Sunday, even as the official death toll in the five days of torrential showers till Aug 29 hit 47.
As per IMD, a depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is travelling towards Gujarat and Maharashtra. Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Saurashtra, central Gujarat and south Gujarat regions till Sept 5.
Between Aug 25 and Aug 29, the maximum – seven – fatalities were reported from Jamnagar district, followed by Ahmedabad and Anand recording six deaths each.
Three persons each died in Vadodara, Kheda, Mahisagar, Surendranagar and Kutch districts. While Gandhinagar, Bharuch, Dahod and Chhota Udepur recorded two deaths each, Morbi, Dang, Aravalli, Panchmahal and Devbhoomi Dwarka reported one death each.
The death toll, however, doesn’t include the seven bodies found in Vadodara two days ago; seven who drowned in Morbi, and two deaths due to electrocution in Vadodara.
As of Saturday, Gujarat has received 111% of seasonal rainfall.
