PATNA: In what may create a new force in Bihar politics, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor (PK) has decided to contest bypolls for four assembly seats in central-south region, where RJD-led grand alliance fared well in Lok Sabha elections.
PK, who has been on a “padyatra” for two years, will officially launch Jan Suraaj as a political party on Oct 2 ahead of the bypolls in Tarari, Ramgarh, Imamganj and Belaganj in Nov.”If we win all four seats, the 2025 (Bihar) poll results will be decided in 2024 itself,” PK said in Ara on Monday. He criticised both RJD chief Lalu Prasad and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar, alleging that there was a “jungle raj of organised crime” during Lalu govt and a “jungle raj of bureaucrats” during Nitish’s rule.
RJD has labelled PK as BJP’s “B” team, but his growing influence has caused concern among parties in the state. Bihar RJD chief Jagadanand Singh said, “People trust Tejashwi, who is now an established leader. Those joining Jan Suraaj are past their prime. Why would people trust PK? He has done nothing for Bihar.” BJP has launched a membership drive ahead of the 2025 battle, while RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav will start “Abhaar Yatra” on Sept 10.
JD(U) neta Rajeev Ranjan Prasad said, “He has a big challenge to establish himself as a political face in Bihar.”
