RG Kar hospital stir: West Bengal govt invites agitating doctors for talks at 6pm today | Kolkata News – Times of India

West Bengal government invites junior doctors for talks over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The meeting is set for 6pm at ‘Nabanna’, with doctors insisting on live streaming and demanding removal of key officials.

NEW DELHI: The West Bengal government on Wednesday extended an invitation to representatives of the agitating junior doctors for discussions in an effort to resolve the ongoing deadlock over the alleged rape and murder of an on-duty post-graduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata last month.
According to a report from news agency PTI, the TMC government invited 12-15 representatives for talks at the state secretariat ‘Nabanna‘ scheduled for 6pm.
The government’s move came in response to an email sent by the doctors to chief minister Mamata Banerjee, requesting a meeting to address the situation.
The doctors specified that they were willing to meet “anytime and anywhere,” provided the entire discussion was streamed live, a doctor said.
“We have written to the CM, stating that we are ready for a meeting today or tomorrow at any location of her choice. However, we have insisted that the meeting must be streamed live,” one of the junior doctors told PTI.
The protesting doctors, who have been demonstrating outside the state health department office for over 22 hours, are demanding the removal of Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Goyal, the state health secretary, and the directors of health education and health services.
