NEW DELHI: Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) has secured a contract to manufacture Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) combat vehicles for the Moroccan defence forces.
“Kingdom of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and Tata Advanced Systems sign deal for local production of Wheeled Armoured Platform. Developed in collaboration with the DRDO and Tata Motors, this marks a significant milestone as we expand our footprint overseas as a Defence OEM,” Tata Advanced Systems (Tata Aerospace & Defence) said in a post on X.
The WhAP vehicles will be delivered to the Moroccan forces over a three-year period, news agency ANI reported.
This contract represents the largest deal for Indian-made armoured vehicles, both domestically and internationally. The Indian paramilitary forces have also placed orders for this indigenous armoured vehicle.
The WhAP has undergone extensive trials in Morocco over the past several months, and the manufacturers will collaborate closely with DRDO teams to incorporate upgrades to the vehicles during the supply period.
Designed and developed indigenously, the WhAP is an amphibious wheeled combat vehicle that aligns with global trends in its design philosophy. The platform focus on modularity, scalability, and reconfigurability, allowing it to be adapted for various roles.
The WhAP is capable of navigating through challenging terrain, such as muddy or slushy conditions, and can withstand mine blasts. Different variants of the WhAP, including the Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV) and the paramilitary version, have already been inducted into the Indian Army and paramilitary forces.
