BHOPAL: In a momentous development for India’s conservation efforts at the onset of new year, ‘Aasha,’ the cheetah named by Prime Minister Modi, gave birth to a robust litter of cubs inside Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
This development has sparked renewed hopes for the thriving resurgence of cheetahs within the Indian ecosystem.
Aasha has delivered three cubs, officials confirmed.
The much-anticipated birth of these cubs stands as a beacon of hope for the restoration of the cheetah population in India, say officials.
“Aasha’s successful delivery marks a significant milestone in the ongoing conservation initiatives championed by wildlife authorities and environmentalists across the nation” said an officer.
The Prime Minister had bestowed the name ‘Aasha,’ meaning ‘hope,’ upon the cheetah.
Authorities are closely monitoring Aasha and her newborn cubs, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for their growth and development.
Union minister Bhupendra shared the news of the arrival of new cubs on social media.
“Purrs in the wild! Thrilled to share that Kuno National Park has welcomed three new members. The cubs have been born to Namibian Cheetah Aasha. This is a roaring success for Project Cheetah, envisioned by PM Shri @narendramodi ji to restore ecological balance” Yadav tweeted.

Meanwhile, heavy tourist footfall is being recorded in Kuno. Adima and Ananya Upadhyay – sisters from Bhopal — who are looking forward yo book a safari for Kuno along with family said they are thrilled and hopeful about sighting cheetah in the wild. “It’s going to be our first visit to Sheopur and we are exited” said Ananya.
