Apple is rolling out its first wave of AI features, bringing intelligent writing tools, enhanced photo editing, and a reimagined Siri to compatible devices through iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 updates. Here are all the new Apple Intelligence features that are coming to your iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Writing Tools
Writing Tools enables users to rewrite, proofread, and summarise text across Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps.
Clean up
Clean Up tool can identify and remove distracting background objects without affecting the main subject.
Memory Movies
Apple’s Photos app now lets users create custom video montages simply by typing a description. Unlike the auto-generated Memories feature, Memory Movies allows users to craft specific stories from their photo library.
Improved search in Photos app
Apple’s Photos app gains natural language search capabilities, allowing users to find specific images and videos by describing them in everyday language. Users can now search with detailed descriptions and the app will locate matching content across both photos and videos. The search also offers intelligent auto-completion suggestions as users type their queries.
Siri gets a visual overhaul
Apple’s voice assistant receives a complete redesign, featuring an elegant glowing light that wraps around device screens. Users can now type to Siri and switch seamlessly between voice and text input. The assistant maintains context between requests and can answer thousands of questions about Apple device features.
Call recording and transcription
The Notes and Phone apps now offer AI-powered recording, transcription, and summary features. When recording phone calls, participants receive automatic notifications, and the system generates call summaries afterward.
Notification Summaries
A new Focus mode called Reduce Interruptions uses AI to filter notifications, surfacing only those requiring immediate attention. The system also provides smart summaries of stacked notifications directly on the Lock Screen.
“Reduce Interruptions” Focus mode
The Reduce Interruptions Focus feature shows only notifications that require immediate attention, such as a text from a friend or work.
Apple Intelligence: What devices will support Apple’s new AI features
The features are available on iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Then, iPads with M1 chips and later, and Macs with M1 processors and newer, will also support Apple Intelligence.
The rollout begins with US English support, expanding to other English-speaking regions in December and additional languages throughout 2025.
More features coming later this year
Coming later this year, Apple will introduce more AI features including Image Playground for creative image generation, Image Wand for enhancing notes with AI-generated illustrations, and custom Genmoji creation.
Apple is also integrating ChatGPT into Siri, and is slated to introduce Visual Intelligence for iPhone 16 models. Email app overhaul, which’ll then use AI to filter emails, is also enroute for later this year.
