LUCKNOW/RAE BARELI: Congress MP from Rae Bareli and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reached his parliamentary constituency on Tuesday. He arrived at the Amausi Airport in Lucknow, where several senior leaders, including MP Pramod Tewari and MLA Aradhana Mishra Mona, along with scores of party workers, welcomed him. Thereafter, Rahul took the road to his constituency.
An official spokesperson revealed that Rahul was to attend several events in his constituency, including the inauguration of the newly built Shaheed Chowk and a road constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. In addition, he would attend the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting.
Upon reaching Rae Bareli, Rahul stopped at the Churwa Hanuman Temple to offer his prayers to the revered deity. Here too, workers swarmed their leader amidst enthusiastic sloganeering and a floral welcome.
The visit was dubbed a ‘silent reply’ to BJP’s attack on Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi for their ‘silence over attacks on Hindu temples in Canada’.
To note, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari on Monday said: “It is painful that when all parties must be united on the issue of national interest, Priyanka Vadra, who posts 10 tweets on Gaza, and Rahul Gandhi, who speaks for minorities in the country, go silent when Hindus are attacked in Bangladesh or Canada. This makes it clear that for the Indian Opposition, for the Congress party, Hindu lives don’t matter.”
Thereafter, Rahul headed to inaugurate the Shaheed Chowk and projects under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana. The MP then proceeded to the DISHA meeting. On the way, he also lent an ear to the agitating school teachers of UP.
Earlier, MP Pramod Tewari told news agencies that ‘Rahul – the LoP – took out time from his busy schedule to fulfil his duties as the MP’.
“Rahul Gandhi is an MP from Rae Bareli. The DISHA meeting is presided over by a Lok Sabha MP. Despite such a busy schedule, he is going to Rae Bareli to carry out his responsibility as an MP,” Tewari said.
