As Donald Trump swept the US presidential elections winning majority of the swing states, Kamala Harris is yet to formally concede defeat.
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris is set to play a crucial, constitutionally mandated role: certifying the results. It would be the Vice President’s responsibility to formally declare the winner of the election– Donald Trump.

“The Constitution names the vice president of the United States as the president of the Senate. In addition to serving as presiding officer, the vice president … formally presides over the receiving and counting of electoral ballots cast in presidential elections,” the Senate website says.
The vice president cancelled her speech which was scheduled for Wednesday night.
“We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet,” Cedric Richmond said.
“We will continue overnight, to fight to make sure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken. So, you won’t hear from the vice president tonight. But you will hear from her tomorrow, she will be back here tomorrow, not only to address her supporters but also the nation,” he added.
Trump, in his victory speech, called it a “golden age for America,” reiterating his MAGA rhetoric.
“This will truly be a golden age for America. This is a magnificent victory that will also help us to make America great again,” he said.
