India captain Rohit Sharma announced the arrival of the fourth member in his family in a heartwarming social media post on Saturday as he and his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, welcomed a baby boy on the night before.
‘Family, the one where we are four,” read the text on an image posted by Rohit on his Instagram account.
The couple already has a five-year-old daughter, Samaira.
Rohit stayed back home for the birth of his second child while the Indian team left for the tour of Australia last weekend. The team is currently training at the WACA stadium in Perth.
It’s still unclear if Rohit will be able to fly to Australia in time to be available for the first Test, which begins at the Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22.
In the absence of Rohit, the Indian team has options for opening batter in the form of KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Abhimanyu Easwaran to partner the left-handed Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Rohit has not been at the top of his form recently, having failed in the last 10 Test innings in the series at home against Bangladesh (2 Tests) and New Zealand (3 Tests) in lead-up to the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
While India swept Bangladesh 0-2, the hosts were whitewashed 0-3 by the Kiwis — the first such instance for India in a three-Test series at home.
