UDUPI: A hit-and-run case was filed against a 26-year-old youth, the son of a Congress leader. The deceased is Mohammed Hussain, 39.

In a complaint, Ummarabba, 65, a resident of Belapu village and the parent of the deceased, stated that the incident took place when Hussain was riding a motorcycle from Belapu towards Punchalakadu at around 5.00 AM on November 13.
Near Maria Bakery, a vehicle coming from Punchalakadu towards Belapu was allegedly driven recklessly and negligently on the extreme right side of the road and collided with Hussain’s motorcycle.
Following the collision, Hussain sustained severe injuries to his legs, hands, and head. He was initially taken to Ajjarkad Hospital in Udupi for treatment.
Upon examination, the doctors referred him to another hospital for advanced care, and he was shifted to a private hospital in Manipal. The driver of the offending vehicle fled the scene with the vehicle without providing any assistance to the injured Hussain, who fell onto the road with his motorcycle.
A case was registered at the Shirva Police Station under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the BNS, as well as Sections 134(a) and (b) of the IMV Act. Meanwhile, the offending vehicle was identified as a Jeep driven by Prajwal Shetty, 26, the son of Deviprasad Shetty Belapu, a resident of Belapu village.
The vehicle and its driver were taken into custody, and legal proceedings were initiated. On November 14, at around 7.30 PM, Hussain succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into this case will be expedited, and a chargesheet will be submitted to the court as soon as possible, the police said.
