NEW DELHI: Former Congress MLA Sumesh Shokeen joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal present at the event on Monday in Delhi on Monday.
After joing the ruling party, Shokeen said that he intend to work for the community of Delhi Dehat, aligning with Kejriwal’s leadership in connecting the region with the rest of Delhi.
“Whatever work is being done for Delhi Dehat, to connect it with Delhi, it is being done under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. I will work together with Arvind Kejriwal for the people of Delhi Dehat and my constituency,” Shokeen said.
Kejriwal welcomed Shokeen to the party, highlighting the previous neglect of Delhi Dehat by earlier governments.
He mentioned that before AAP’s administration, people in Delhi Dehat did not feel integrated with Delhi.
Kejriwal recalled an incident during Sheila Dikshit’s tenure as chief minister when she seemed unaware of agricultural activity in Delhi, saying, “Does farming even take place in Delhi?”
Following the establishment of their government, AAP provided compensation to farmers and initiated development projects such as mohalla clinics, schools, and hospitals in the area.
Kejriwal noted, “Impressed by the development work, Sumesh Shokeen is joining us today.”
