A Chinese tech firm has introduced cash incentives to encourage its single employees to date. According to a report by the South China Morning Post, Insta360, a camera company based in Shenzhen, has set up an internal dating platform to foster connections. Employees can earn 66 yuan (approximately Rs 770) for each approved post that introduces a non-employee single person to the company’s dating platform.
The initiative was introduced by the company less than three months ago. If an employee successfully matches with an outsider through the platform and maintains the relationship for three months, the company rewards both partners and the matchmaker with 1,000 yuan (approximately Rs 11,700) each.
The company says that the initiative is aimed to enhance employees’ sense of belonging and overall happiness.
How employees reacted to the program
The report quotes a staff member who told the publication that nearly 500 posts had been shared on the company’s forum by November 11, 2024. The company has already distributed close to 10,000 yuan (approximately Rs 1,16,576) in cash incentives to participants posting about potential matches.
One employee jokingly said: “My company is more eager than my mum.”
How social media responded
Internet users had a mixed response to the initiative. Praising the initiative, one user commented on Douyin said “The government should follow suit.” Another said “Does the company have any recruitment plans?”
However, there were some who criticised the incentive. For example, one user commented “Love should not be measured by money.”
