LUCKNOW: Body of a Dalit girl in her 20s was found stuffed in a sack, and dumped near the Kanjara river bridge in Karhal area of Mainpuri on Wednesday, when polling was under way for the assembly by elections.
Her father accused a local youth, Prashant Yadav, of the crime, claiming the killing was politically motivated.
The victim’s father stated that three days ago, Prashant Yadav, a Samajwadi Party (SP) supporter, visited their house demanding they vote for the SP. When his daughter declared support for the BJP, Prashant allegedly threatened them.
“On Tuesday evening, she was forcibly taken away. Her slippers were later found in Prashant’s office,” he claimed.
Her mutilated body was recovered on Wednesday morning, he said.
Locals reported seeing her with Prashant before her disappearance.
“Suspects Prashant Yadav and another suspect, Mohan Kateria, have been arrested. The motive behind the murder is under probe. We are looking on all the aspects which could have led to murder,” said Inspector General of Police, Agra Range, Deepak Kumar.
BJP candidate Anujesh Yadav condemned the incident, stating, “This reflects the lawlessness under SP.” BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya also criticized the SP, calling it the “atrocity of the red-capped goons.”
The victim’s family, who sells vegetables for a living, alleged the murder stemmed from their refusal to vote for the SP.
