Israel’s military said that Hezbollah fired about 250 rockets and other projectiles into its territory from Lebanon on Sunday, with Hezbollah saying that the attacks targeted areas including Tel Aviv and southern Israel.
The militant group said it carried out “an aerial attack using a swarm of attack drones on the Ashdod naval base” in southern Israel. It later announced it had fired “a barrage of advanced missiles and a swarm of attack drones” at a “military target” in Tel Aviv and launched missiles at the Glilot army intelligence base near the city. Hezbollah had previously reported targeting the Glilot base.
The Israeli military noted that the highest number of projectiles, 350, was recorded on September 24, 2024.
Since September 23, Israel has increased its airstrikes in Lebanon and has sent ground troops to southern Lebanon. The conflict follows nearly a year of limited exchanges of fire initiated by Hezbollah in support of Hamas after Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which led to the Gaza war.
Israel’s medical agencies said 11 people were injured in strikes, including one man in “moderate to serious” condition. The Palestine Red Crescent reported 13 injuries in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the Israeli-occupied West Bank when an interceptor missile struck several houses.
The attacks follow four Israeli strikes in Beirut last week, including one that killed Hezbollah spokesperson Mohammed Afif.
In a speech, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said the response to these strikes “must be expected on central Tel Aviv.”
Lebanon’s health ministry reported that 3,670 people have been killed in the country since October 2023, with most deaths occurring after September 2024.
