NEW DELHI: Five people, including four women, died when an SUV collided with a bus in Mallawan area of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police said.
The accident took place in the early hours in the Gaurinagar locality, injuring four others. Officials stated that both the SUV and the bus were transporting passengers returning from different weddings.
The deceased have been identified as Seema (40), Pratibha (32), Pratibha (42), Ramlali (52) and Subham (28).
All the victims were traveling in the SUV.
“The accident took place when a car returning from a wedding procession in Kanpur collided with a bus returning from a wedding procession in Baghauli at the Gauri Nagar intersection in the Mallawan Kotwali area. Five people have died and four people were injured in the accident,” Kumar confirmed while speaking to ANI
The injured were initially admitted to a local hospital but were later referred to Lucknow for advanced medical treatment.
Additional superintendent of police Nripendra Kumar stated that an investigation into the incident is underway.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences for the loss of lives and directed the administration to provide the best possible treatment for the injured.
