PRAYAGRAJ: Allahabad high court has directed a Varanasi court to decide, “preferably within eight weeks”, a petition seeking unrestricted right to worship the purported Shivling found inside Gyanvapi mosque premises in May 2022.
This application was filed before Varanasi’s civil judge (senior division) in a petition seeking a permanent injunction against Anjuman Intezamia Masjid (AIM) restraining it from interfering in worship of the purported Shivling, including offering of “bhog, prasad, shayan aarti, mangal aarti, garlanding, dugdh abhishek, and kirtan”.
Justice Manish Kumar Nigam passed the order in a petition filed by one Vivek Soni and another, who had approached HC requesting expeditious disposal of their interim application, pending before civil judge (senior division), Varanasi, since 2022.
A Shivling-like structure was found in the ablution pond during a court-monitored survey of Gyanvapi complex in May 2022, conducted on a petition filed by five women plaintiffs in the original Shringar Gauri case.
