PATNA: A Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) became a lifesaver when he assisted a 70-year-old passenger experiencing a medical emergency aboard the 15708 Amrapali Express. The incident, which took place in the general coach, showed the TTE performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the elderly traveller.
The incident gained widespread attention after the Ministry of Railways posted footage of the rescue effort on Instagram.
The elderly passenger had reportedly experienced a cardiac episode whilst travelling in the general compartment.
The caption of the video read, “TTE’s promptness saved a life. When a 70-year-old passenger suffered a heart attack while travelling in the general coach of train number 15708 ‘Amrapali Express’, the TTE deployed there immediately gave CPR and saved the passenger’s life. Thereafter, the passenger was sent to the hospital at Chhapra railway station.”
The social media response to the video has been mixed, with numerous users commending the TTE’s prompt response, whilst others have raised concerns about the appropriateness of performing CPR on a responsive person.
Healthcare professionals generally advise that CPR should be administered only when an individual is unconscious or has ceased breathing.
One user wrote,” That’s wrong. R is given only when there is no pulse and the patient is unconscious. In case he was having a heart attack he should have made to cough instead.”
Another user wrote,” CPR for a conscious patient?? Bro CRP is given when heart has stopped working. He is alive and moving.”
