Fengal likely to be a weak cyclone; but Chennai gets red alert | Chennai News – Times of India


CHENNAI: The IMD on Thursday said the deep depression over the Bay may develop into a weak cyclone for a few hours on Friday before it makes a landfall between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on Nov 30 morning as a deep depression.
On Nov 29, a red alert has been issued to Chengalpet, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts, Puducherry and Karaikal as they receive extremely heavy rainfall in one or two places and scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ariyalur and Thanjavur districts get an orange alert as they receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in scattered places.
Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Trichy, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram districts have been issued a yellow alert as they may receive heavy rainfall.
On Nov 30, a red alert has been issued to Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore districts and Puducherry as they may receive extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places and scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam districts and Karaikal area have been given an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, Pudukkottai and Karur districts get a yellow alert for heavy rainfall.
On Dec 1 and 2, west Tamil Nadu districts and a few interior districts may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall as the system moves inland.
