BJP flays Mehbooba for equating Bangla minorities with India – Times of India

JAMMU: J&K BJP leaders Sunday demanded action against PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for her remark comparing the condition of minorities in Bangladesh with those in India, calling it “anti-national.”
Addressing party workers recently in Jammu, Mehbooba asked people to stand up to counter BJP’s alleged attempts at polarisation and asked if there was any difference between Bangladesh and India.
Reacting to violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, Mehbooba drew parallels between the row over survey of the mosque there and the atrocities being committed against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh.
“Our Hindu brothers are facing oppression in Bangladesh. But what is the difference if we treat minorities here the same way? Ours is a great country, known worldwide for its secular character,” she said.
Criticising Mehbooba’s statements, BJP leaders described them as “wrong and condemnable.”
Former J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina told mediapersons that the J&K govt should take serious note of the “anti-national statement made by Mehbooba and her conspiracies.”
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh dismissed Mehbooba’s claim that the nation’s secular foundation is being shaken as “baseless,” saying it reflected her “ideological bankruptcy.”
“Her comments are detached from reality,” he said, adding that she was engaged in divisive rhetoric, attributing it to her “frustration” over repeated electoral failures.
