MUMBAI: An allegedly inebriated teen at the wheel of a Porsche rammed into five motorcycles, leaving them damaged, at Bandra West early on Saturday. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
The incident occurred around 2.30 am near Sadhu Vaswani Chowk at Bandra. Police said the 19-year-old accused was returning from a night out with his friends. The teen is a college-goer and lives in Vile Parle. His father is a businessman. As soon as the car rammed into the motorcycles and came to a halt, the teen and three others, including a girl, stepped out of the vehicle. A crowd of passersby gathered, and the Bandra police were informed.
“The incident was captured on surveillance cameras. On the basis of eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage, we registered a case of rash driving,” said a police officer. A medical examination confirmed that the teen was inebriated, police said.
In May 2024, a 17-year-old boy, at the wheel of a Porsche Taycan, hit a motorcycle around 2.30 am at Kalyaninagar in Pune, killing two techies on it. The two victims were identified as Anish Awadhia and Ashwini Kosta, both 24. Later, a Pune crime branch team detained the father of the teenage driver. The father, a prominent builder, faced charges of giving his son his high-end car to drive despite knowing that the latter did not have a driving licence nor was he trained to drive the car and that his son had consumed alcohol. The teenager’s grandfather and mother were also subsequently arrested. The mother was accused of giving her blood sample to be swapped with that of her son’s which was taken for a medical examination after the crash.
