NEW DELHI: Proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were washed out on Tuesday as BJP and Congress MPs sparred over the Adani issue and the opposition party’s alleged links with billionaire philanthropist George Soros.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged MPs from both ruling and opposition parties to maintain the dignity of the House and allow discussion. LS was adjourned ahead of the Question Hour amid din. There were noisy disruptions by both sides in Rajya Sabha as Congress sought a debate on the Adani indictment issue. RS was adjourned for the day during the morning session.
Birla said, “Ours is the largest democracy in the world and it fulfils the hopes and aspirations of the people. We all must maintain the dignity of the House. But I have seen that in the last few days certain things have happened which were not good.” Birla said it was noticed that even senior MPs took part in these incidents, which was not good.
In RS, Leader of the House J P Nadda said media platform Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project is one of the organisations that is being used to destabilise govt. Without naming Congress’s Sonia Gandhi, who was present in the House, Nadda questioned her role as the “co-chair of an organisation funded by Soros” in destabilising the country, triggering an uproar in the House.
