NEW DELHI: Veteran BJP leader LK Advani, currently undergoing treatment at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital in Delhi, is showing signs of improvement and is expected to be shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within the next one or two days, a statement released by the hospital on Tuesday confirmed.
The former deputy prime minister has been in the ICU since December 12 for medical management and investigations.
“LK Advani, the former deputy prime minister of India, has been under the care of Dr Vinit Suri in the ICU of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals since December 12. He has shown gradual improvement in his medical condition. Based on his progress, he is likely to be shifted out of the ICU within the next 1-2 days,” the hospital said.
Advani was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, for medical evaluation and treatment. According to hospital authorities, the 97-year-old leader is “stable” and under observation.
“LK Advani, former deputy prime minister of India, has been admitted to the ICU of Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals for medical management and investigations. He is under the care of Dr Vinit Suri and is currently stable,” the hospital said in a media statement.
Earlier this year, Advani was admitted to Hospital in August also for a routine check-up. He was also treated at AIIMS earlier this year.
In March, Advani was conferred with the Bharat Ratna by President Droupadi Murmu.
Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (now in Pakistan), Advani became a Swayamsevak of the RSS in 1942. He served as BJP president during three separate terms: 1986–1990, 1993–1998, and 2004–2005.
