NEW DELHI: At least five people died and 37 others injured after a truck carrying chemicals caught fire after colliding with multiple vehicles on Jaipur-Ajmer highway in Bhankrota area early on Friday.
According to SMS Medical College Principal, Dr Deepak Maheshwari, “4 people have died in the incident. 24-25 people have been admitted to the ICU. More people are coming. Many people have been injured in the incident. It is a severe accident.”
Several vehicles were also gutted in the blaze following with the police and administration launched a massive search and rescue operation at the accident cite.
The exact number of vehicles involved in the mishap remains unclear as of now. The injured people have been transported to nearby hospitals, according to police officials.
Bhankrota station house officer (SHO) Manish Gupta stated, “The fire has engulfed several vehicles. The number of vehicle involved in the incident is not clear. Some people with burn injuries have been rushed to hospitals.”
Firefighters are working to control the blaze, and highway traffic has been halted.
