NEW DELHI: An elegantly adorned white horse, exuberant baraatis dancing to the rhythmic beats of the dhol, folk songs echoing from loudspeakers, and a large crowd—this is the typical wedding procession in India. However, the scene transforms dramatically when the central figure, the groom, is absent. It becomes even more unusual when the folk songs serve as political commentary and the baraatis hold up signs reading: “BJP ka dulha kaun?”
On Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a wedding procession without a groom in an apparent jab at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has yet to announce its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections.
The procession witnessed the participation of AAP leader Sanjay Singh among others “The wedding procession is going but the groom is not visible. BJP is a wedding procession without a groom,” he said posting a video of the procession.
“No leader, no policy, no intention,” he added.
The video was reposted by AAP chief and CM candidate Arvind Kejriwal who said: “A wedding procession without the groom.” This comes after Kejriwal had declared, citing sources, that Ramesh Bidhuri was BJP’s candidate for the top post.
The move was termed a “tactic” by the saffron party with Bidhuri denying any claim to the post.
The BJP leaders have said that the CM face would be decided party’s leadership and announced at the “right time.”
The national capital is set to go to polls on February 5 and the votes would be counted on February 8.
