Centre issues notice to Ola, Uber over alleged fare disparity on iPhone, Android | India News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notice to cab companies Ola and Uber over alleged differences in prices for similar cab rides on mobile operating system — Android and iOS, consumer affairs minister Prahlad Joshi informed on Thursday.
“As a follow-up to the earlier observation of apparent Differential Pricing based on the different models of mobiles (iPhones/ Android) being used, Department of Consumer Affairs through the CCPA, has issued notices to major cab aggregators Ola and Uber, seeking their responses,” the minister said in a post on X.

This came after several commuter complained of disparity in cab fares displayed simultaneously on Android devices and iPhones for identical rides.
The Times of India had, in December, investigated and found that the fares displayed were higher on the iOS device as compared to Android.
Experts attribute the disparities to the way ride-hailing apps access hardware data, which users must consent to during the app installation process.
