NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted custody parole to Mohammad Tahir Hussain, an accused in the Delhi Riots case, allowing him to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections under police supervision.

As per the court’s directive, Hussain will be permitted to leave jail daily at 6am and must return by 6pm.
This parole will remain in effect until February 3.
The Supreme Court further said that Hussain will be responsible for covering all expenses related to his custody parole, including the costs for Delhi police officers assigned to him, as well as the expenses for the jail van and escort services.
The Court stated that Hussain will be released from jail according to the jail manual once the required expenses, approximately 2 lakh for 12 hours, are deposited.
Hussain is a key accused in the February 2020 Delhi riots that claimed 53 lives and left several injured in northeast Delhi. Among the many cases against him, one relates to the death of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma.
