NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a rally, accusing him of corruption, failed governance, and misleading the public on key issues.
Responding to Kejriwal’s recent allegation that the Haryana government had mixed poison into the Yamuna River, which supplies water to Delhi, Shah dismissed the claim as baseless. He challenged Kejriwal to release the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) report he referenced. “Kejriwal ji, what is the name of the poison you are alleging is mixed in the Yamuna? Show us the report or any official order regarding the matter,” Shah demanded.
Taking a swipe at Kejriwal, Shah said, “Winning and losing are part of elections. But by making an innocent face, you accused the Haryana government of mixing poison and tried to scare the people of Delhi. Politics cannot get dirtier than this.”
Shah accused Kejriwal of fearmongering to gain political mileage ahead of the polls. “This is nothing but an attempt to mislead and scare the public for electoral gains,” he said.
Addressing the crowd in Kalkaji, Shah criticised Kejriwal’s governance record, particularly on healthcare and infrastructure. He promised significant reforms if BJP comes to power in Delhi. “As soon as the Delhi government is formed, the people of Delhi will get free healthcare facilities up to Rs 10 lakh. Senior citizens will receive a pension of Rs 2,500, and widows’ pensions will increase to Rs 3,000,” Shah declared.
He also alleged that Kejriwal blocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana, denying Delhiites access to the nationwide healthcare initiative.
Shah criticised Kejriwal for failing to deliver on key promises, including 24/7 free water supply and cleaning the Yamuna. “Where are the results? These promises remain unfulfilled,” Shah questioned.
He also highlighted Kejriwal’s shifting political stances, recalling his initial vow not to form a political party and his later alliance with the Congress, a party he once heavily criticised.
Shah outlined BJP’s vision for transforming Delhi, pledging housing for the poor, job creation, and improved infrastructure. “Within five years, Delhi will become the number one capital in the country,” he said, promising better healthcare, a stronger economy, and enhanced employment opportunities under BJP governance.
