NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday hit back at Congress over party chief Mallikarjun Kharge questioning the relevance of people taking the holy dip at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
“Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi has consistently insulted our Sanatan Dharma. There is no compulsion for them to practice it if they don’t have faith in it. But they should not make fun of the crores who are visiting Kumbh,” Shah said.
“I took a dip in the cold waters at Triveni Sangam yesterday but it was Kharge ji who caught a cold. He said that taking a dip in the Sangam will not help the poor. I want to ask him, you are now 80 years old and have never taken a dip there. But what have you done for the poor,” Shah said, suggesting that the Congress chief was creating a fake dichotomy between religiosity and welfare of the poor. Shah was campaigning for BJP in Delhi’s Kalkaji constituency.
