Six pilgrims who were returning from Maha Kumbh after a holy dip – three each from UP and Bihar – died in two separate road accidents on Thursday, bringing the total number of such deaths since the start of the religious congregation to 28.
Three devotees from UP were killed and three others injured when their car collided with a UPSRTC bus in Jaunpur. With Thursday’s accident, a total of 10 residents of UP – including one from Noida – have perished while returning from or going to Prayagraj.
On Tuesday, four pilgrims from Lucknow on their way to Prayagraj were killed after their SUV crashed with a tractor parked on the wrong side in Rae Bareli. The next day, two women from Siddharthnagar on their way to Prayagraj died when their SUV collided with a bus near Amethi.
In the second accident on Thursday, three people from East Champaran who were returning from Kumbh died after their car collided with a truck on the Purvanchal Expressway.
Earlier this week, four members of a Delhi-based lawyer’s family, who were returning from Prayagraj, died on the spot in Agra when their car hit the divider on Lucknow-Agra Expressway and overturned on the other side, hitting a mini truck. The deceased included the lawyer, his wife and their two children, aged 12 and 4. It is suspected that the driver dozed off.
