Sam Altman recently faced criticism for his ‘hopeless’ comment of building an artificial intelligence (AI) model under $10 million to compete with the ChatGPT. During an Economic Times conversation in 2023, Altman remarked “It’s totally hopeless to compete with us on training foundation models”. In a latest, People Group founder and Shark Tank judge Anupam Mittal has joined the list of those criticizing the OpenAI CEO.
Taking to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), Mittal reshared Altman’s “words to India in 2023” stating that “while India hasn’t done it yet”, he is “glad somebody made him less smug”.
Here’s what Anupam Mittal wrote
‘It is completely hopeless to compete with us’ @sama words to India in 2023. While India hasn’t done it yet, am glad somebody made him less smug. Apna time bhi aayega 💪🏼”
The Shark Tank judge did not stop there. He continued Altman’s criticism in comments to this post. When one user said “He did not say it like that. He joked about it. You know this very well but playing the nationalist card,” Mittal replied “He was dead serious”.
“He was talking about infra. & He was & is right,” commented another user. To this, Mittal responded saying “It’s pretty clear what he was talking about. I have lived in the US for 10 yrs and while they are some of the smartest folks in the world, their arrogance is the kink in their armor”.
When another user wrote “We will for sure copy models and recreate a cheaper ones. But 100% sure we will not create our own LLM ✌🏻,” he replied “Willing to bet that we will have multiple foundational models before the end of the year”. A fourth user commented “Aap daalo paise banate ek indian LLM”. Mittal replied with an affirmation stating “On it”.
