Sri Lankan navy arrests 10 Indian fishermen for poaching in territorial waters | Madurai News – The Times of India


MADURAI: Sri Lankan navy apprehended ten Indian fishermen and their fishing trawler on charges of poaching in their territorial waters on Sunday night.
The fishermen were among the more than 500 fishermen who sailed on their crafts from Mandapam fishing harbour.
While they were fishing off Talaimannar coast, the Sri Lankan navy apprehended the fishing boat and took the fishermen into custody.
The navy took the boat and her crew to Talaimannar naval base and were handed over to fisheries officials on Monday morning.
The arrested fishermen are likely to be produced before Mannar Court and lodged in Vavuniya prison later in the day.
