NEW DELHI: An IndiGo flight operating from Madurai to Mumbai, 6E 2012, on Tuesday suffered an engine snag and then landed safely at its destination.
The Airbus A321 (VT-IUJ) saw one of its Pratt & Whitney (PW) engines shut down in-flight. Since twin engine aircraft can land safely on one engine, one did so in Mumbai. The aircraft is now grounded in Mumbai.
Comments have been sought from IndiGo and are awaited.
Almost 40 aircraft of IndiGo have been grounded for months due to PW snags and the engine-maker’s inability to supply replacement engines. GoFirst had blamed its grounding earlier this year squarely on PW engine snags that had led to over half its fleet being grounded for many months awaiting replacement engines.
Delhi Airport has 52 aircraft of IndiGo and GoAir grounded for months, leading to parking space crunch for the upcoming G20 mega event the capital will host on September 9-10, 2023. As a result, airlines have been asked to cut flights so that they need to fly in fewer planes to IGI Airport and thus create space for the large number of VVIP aircraft expected here for the Leaders’ Summit.
