AAP leader Atishi submits resignation as Delhi CM after party’s poll defeat | India News – The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi on Sunday tendered her resignation as Delhi chief minister to lieutenant governor VK Saxena at the Raj Niwas, following her party’s crushing defeat in assembly elections.
The 43-year-old leader was serving as the Delhi chief minister since September 2024. She was elevated to the top post after the AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal resigned as CM.
She was the third woman CM of the national capital after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
Atishi emerged as the silver lining for AAP as she secured victory from the Kalkaji seat while BJP swept her party out of power in the Delhi assembly elections 2025. She won against BJP’s candidate Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 in a hard-fought contest.
BJP won a historic mandate in Delhi, returning to power after 27 years. On the other hand, AAP witnessed a huge drop from its previous tally of 62 to only 22 seats in Delhi polls.
Earlier on Saturday, Atishi conceded AAP’s defeat and acknowledged her individual victory from Kalkaji seat, vowing to continue fighting against BJP.
