JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have officially merged to form a new platform called JioHotstar. This merger is part of a collaboration between Viacom18 and Star India. Announcing the launch of the official JioHotstar app, the company said that JioHotstar will offer nearly 3 lakh hours of entertainment, unmatched live sports coverage, and cater to over 50 crore users.
Existing Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema users with subscription to get free JioHotstar subscription
In an official release, the company said that JioHotstar is free to access for now, meaning users can stream their favourite content without a subscription. The company is likely to adopt a hybrid model where users can initially watch content for free before being required to subscribe to a plan.
While those with a subscription of JioCinema or Disney Hotstar will be able to “seamlessly transition” and set up their JioHotstar plan. This means that users who have subscribed to Disney+ Hotstar premium plans and JioCinema Premium plans will be able to carry forward their existing plans.
For example, if you have subscribed to a Disney+HotStar annual plan and it expires in September 2025, you will be freely upgraded to the JioHotstar plan till it lasts. Similarly for the JioCinema app, users can enjoy their plan on JioHotstar till the plan lasts.

JioHotstar will offer ultra-HD 4K quality content with AI-powered insights, real-time analytics overlays, multi-angle viewing, and specialized ‘cultural’ and ‘special interest’ feeds, providing fans with a more immersive and in-depth connection to their favorite sports.
