NEW DELHI: The Delhi CMO sent an email to social media platform X on Friday requesting the restoration of its official handle “CMO Delhi,” which was allegedly changed to “@KejriwalAtWork”. This action followed the BJP’s appeal to Lt Governor VK Saxena regarding the handle’s renaming.
The CMO’s communication to X highlighted that its verified account with a grey tick with nearly 9,90,000 followers had been altered to “@KejriwalAtWork”. “As per established practice, official accounts are not associated with individuals and pass on to successors as and when change takes place…it is requested to ‘X’ platform to restore “@CMODelhi” and password of the same may kindly be sent to the official email ID cmdelhi@nic.in, which is the authorised official ID of Chief Minister, Delhi,” the CMO said.
This comes after Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Thursday urged the LG to investigate the IT department’s role in the handle’s renaming. Sachdeva had also accused Kejriwal of becoming a “digital looter” after AAP government’s defeat in Delhi elections and criticised him for reportedly repurposing the publicly funded official handle for personal use.
The account, embroiled in controversy, was later deleted and thereafter the @CMODelhi handle is now being used to run a parody account.
