JAMMU: J&K Police on Friday arrested two persons and seized 6 kg heroin worth an estimated Rs 30 crore, smuggled from Pakistan, from a village near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Jammu’s Rajouri district.
The two suspects, Ashok Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, both residents of Sair Bhawani village in Nowshera, were arrested based on the disclosures made by Jaswinder Kumar alias Sonu, a resident of Lamberi village, the prime accused in a narcotics smuggling case registered last year.
The case was registered following the seizure of 5.3 kg heroin from the possession of two accused, Sajan Kumar alias Vicky and Subash Chander.
However, Sonu, who was also an accused in another case registered under the NDPS Act last year at Nowshera, had been absconding for over a year, and finally landed in police net on February 5.
A police spokesperson said during his interrogation, Sonu revealed that he was getting heroin smuggled into India from Pakistan based operatives along with his associates, Ashok and Sanjay.
The two men were nabbed, and admitted to be in possession of smuggled heroin. Upon their disclosure, 12 packets, containing 6 kg heroin, were recovered from the Sair area. “Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to this network,” the spokesperson said.
