NASHIK: A constable at Jalgaon, Maharashtra, was abducted and at least four police personnel sustained injuries when a mob of country gun makers of Madhya Pradesh‘s Umarti village attacked a police team for arresting one of their associates on Saturday. The two state police officials coordinated to secure the constable’s release, reports Santosh Sonawane.
“The state has ensured release of the police constable… We are building cooperation between police units of the two states,” Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis told reporters in Jalgaon.
A skirmish between police and firearms dealers ensued on Saturday in Jalgaon, near MP border. On a tip-off, a home guard posing as a potential buyer, enticed the suspect into the state border. When the suspect crossed the border, a Jalgaon police team nabbed him. Two weapons were seized from his possession. Angry with the arrest, at least a hundred associates of the gun maker confronted the police team. Two constables and an assistant inspector sustained injuries in the confrontation. The undercover home guard was also injured in the clash.
