Elon Musk is set to take on DeepSeek with GrokAI 3, the AI chatbot he went ‘offline’ for – The Times of India

Elon Musk is set to unveil what he calls the “smartest AI on Earth” – Grok 3 – in a live demonstration on Monday at 8 PM PT (Tuesday 9:30 AM IST), marking his latest challenge to competitors in the increasingly crowded AI chatbot space.
Musk, the founder of xAI, went offline over the weekend to work with his team on “honing” the final product, which he describes as “scary smart” in capabilities. Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai earlier this week, Musk claimed Grok 3 has been “outperforming anything that’s been released” in internal testing.
The launch comes just weeks after Chinese startup DeepSeek made waves with its R1 model in January, which reportedly matches the reasoning capabilities of US-based models at lower costs. Grok 3 appears positioned as xAI’s response to growing competition in the AI sector.
According to Musk, Grok 3’s development leveraged the company’s Colossus supercomputer, utilizing 100,000 Nvidia GPU hours for training over eight months. The model incorporates synthetic datasets and self-correction mechanisms, allowing it to review and remove incorrect information to maintain logical consistency.
The new iteration promises significant improvements over Grok 2, which was released in August 2024. Reports indicate Grok 3 will be approximately three times faster than its predecessor.
As xAI prepares for the launch, Bloomberg reported on Saturday that the company is raising $10 billion in funding, with participation from major investors including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and Valor Equity Partners. The funding round could potentially value the startup at $75 billion.
Grok AI is currently available as a free chatbot on Musk’s social media platform X.com, though it remains to be seen how access to Grok 3 will be structured upon release.
