Biden vows to ‘move heaven and earth’ to rebuild Baltimore bridge – Times of India

NEW DELHI: US President Joe Biden on Friday assured the nation of support in rebuilding a collapsed bridge in Baltimore that claimed six lives.
“We’re going to move heaven and earth to rebuild this bridge as rapidly as humanly possible,” he said during his visit to the site.
Assuring those who suffered loss from the bridge collapse, he said, “I’m here to say, your nation has your back.”
Flying over the wreckage in Marine One, he said, “From the air I saw the bridge that’s been ripped apart — but on the ground I see a community that’s been pulled together.”
Biden urged Congress to fund the reconstruction, emphasizing the use of American labor and steel.
“We’re going to get this paid for,” he said.
Earlier, outrage had erupted over a “racist” cartoon depicting Indian crew operating the Dali after the collision of the cargo ship with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The Indian crew operating the Dali lost power, resulting in a collision with a concrete pier supporting the bridge. Within seconds, a significant portion of the Baltimore bridge collapsed into approximately 50 feet of freezing water below.
However, the crew’s prompt Mayday call alerted authorities, leading to the swift shutdown of traffic on the bridge, potentially saving lives.
