NEW DELHI: At least six people were killed, and two others sustained injuries when a speeding jeep collided with a private bus in Madhya Pradesh‘s Jabalpur district on Monday morning, officials said.
The tragic accident occurred near Pahreva village under Khitoula police station limits.
According to Jabalpur collector Deepak Saxena, the Karnataka-registered jeep was returning from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, when the driver lost control.
The vehicle first struck a tree on the road divider before veering into the opposite lane, where it collided with an oncoming bus.
All six victims died on the spot, while the injured were initially treated in Sihora town before being transferred to Jabalpur Medical College for further care.
Authorities said the victims were en route to Karnataka via Jabalpur after their visit to Prayagraj. Meanwhile, the bus driver fled the scene with the vehicle after briefly stopping. Officials have launched a search operation to locate the bus and driver.
Upon receiving the news, the district collector and superintendent of police rushed to the accident site to assess the situation.
3 from Maharashtra die in accident after Mahakumbh visit
Three people, including two women, lost their lives in a tragic accident when their car collided with a truck in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district early Sunday morning.
The victims were returning to Maharashtra from Prayagraj after attending the Mahakumbh when the crash occurred around 4am near Deotalab under Laur police station limits.
The deceased were identified as Rakesh Pardeshi (40), Sarita Pardeshi (53), and Anjana Chourasia (52), all residents of Maharashtra.
Two other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.
The Laur police station head constable, Surendra Singh, said, “Rakesh Pardeshi and Sarita Pardeshi died on the spot, while Anjana Chourasia was referred to Mauganj civil hospital, and doctors referred her to Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi hospital, where she died.”
Sources indicated that the car driver lost control, causing the vehicle to cross the divider and enter the opposite lane, where it crashed into an oncoming truck.
