NEW DELHI: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday strongly backed Kerala unit chief K Sudhakaran‘s continuation amid the reports of ongoing rift between him and the grand-old-party.
Tharoor said that Congress secured significant electoral victories under Sudhakaran’s leadership.
“There is no meaning in the demand for changing the KPCC president as under Sudhakaran’s leadership, the party has secured significant victories and gained the upper hand,” Tharoor said.
Tharoor added that Sudhakaran handled matters responsibly, and the party performed very well under his leadership, including winning by-elections.
“Let him continue. Everyone should stand together with him,” he said.
Tharoor’s remarks comes hours after Sudhakaran left the decision to party’s high command to take a decision on reorganising the party and changing the KPCC president.
“If they (AICC) ask me to step down, I will obey their command as a loyal and obedient party worker,” Sudhakaran said.
Earlier also refuted the controversies surrounding the reports of rift with the Congress party after he was cited saying that he had “other options” if the party did not require his services.
“You all heard the podcast, what was the controversy about?…I still haven’t understood the controversy…now that you have heard the whole podcast, can you tell me what your question is, I am happy to respond…it is a podcast, a 45-minute conversation about life and pursuits of Happiness, nothing there much about any political controversy,” he said.
The controversy erupted after a series of events led to the speculations of Tharoor’s dissatisfaction with his current position in the party.
The rumours intensified when he shared a selfie with Union minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday appreciating the revival of “long-stalled FTA negotiations” with Britain.
Earlier, Tharoor had also asked Rahul to specify the role he is to play in the party. During their discussion in Delhi a couple of days ago, Tharoor expressed deep dissatisfaction over being sidelined within the party. It is learnt that he is unhappy with the discussion as Rahul was not ready to make a commitment.
