Woman Congress worker’s body found in suitcase in Rohtak | Chandigarh News – The Times of India


ROHTAK: The body of a 22-year-old woman Congress worker, who had participated in the Haryana leg of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ in 2023, was found stuffed into a suitcase near Sampla bus stand flyover in Rohtak district on Saturday morning. The woman’s hands had mehndi designs on them, indicating that she had been part of some celebration recently.
Police suspect that she was strangled before the body was placed in the suitcase, which was discovered by some passersby, who informed the police.
Congress MLA from Rohtak Bharat Bhushan Batra identified the deceased as Himani Narwal, a Congress worker who had participated in the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and who had aided former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda during the assembly elections. Originally from Rindhana village of Sonipat, she was residing in Rohtak.
Batra sought the constitution of an Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter.
Sampla Police Station in-charge Bijender said that preliminary findings indicate it was a “premeditated murder”, and a case had been registered at Rohtak. The body was sent to PGIMS Rohtak for post-mortem examination.
Expressing shock over the crime, Hooda said, “The murder of a girl in this manner is extremely sad and shocking …There should be a high-level impartial investigation, and the culprits should get the harshest punishment as soon as possible.” He said it appears that “jungle raj is prevailing in the state.
Hooda further castigated the BJP government in the state over the rising crime graph and for completely failing to ensure women’s safety.
