NEW DELHI: A Delhi court rejected Monday J&K MP Engineer Rashid’s plea for custody parole to attend Parliament’s ongoing budget session. Judge Chander Jit Singh said the order on the Baramulla MP’s regular bail plea would be passed on March 19.
Rashid has been in Delhi’s Tihar jail since 2019 after his arrest in 2017 under UAPA in an alleged terror funding case. Rashid’s application, filed on Feb 27, had sought parole on the grounds that he needed to attend Parliament to fulfil his duty as MP. NIA had opposed the plea. The court was to pronounce its order on this on March 7 but had deferred the matter to Monday.
Last month, Delhi high court had granted Rashid two-day custody parole to attend Parliament on Feb 11 and 13.
Rashid had defeated Omar Abdullah, now J&K CM, in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Baramulla. In Sept last year, he was granted interim bail to campaign for the J&K assembly polls.
