The John Abraham starrer ‘The Diplomat,’ is about to complete a week’s run at the box office. Though the film opened with an impressive number and maintained a steady business over the first weekend, the movie’s business started to slow down as the weekdays began. Further, according to the Sacnilk report, with a collection of Rs.1.40 crore on Wednesday (early estimates), it is trying to reach the Rs.20 crore mark in the debut week.
Before the movie’s release, the early box office predictions weren’t in the favour of ‘The Diplomat.’ However, proving them wrong, the movie made Rs. 4.03 crore on Friday. Thereafter, on both Saturday and Sunday, the film minted Rs 4.65 crore, taking the debut weekend total to more than Rs. 12 crore. The real challenge came on Monday when the movie witnessed a sharp dip of more than 60 percent. On its first Monday the film collected only Rs.1.50 crore, and Tuesday was no better either. With around a 3 percent drop, on Tuesday, the film minted only Rs. 1.45 core. And now with the Wednesday collection of Rs.1.40 crore, the total stands at – Rs.17.65 crore.
Directed by Shivam Nair, ‘The Diplomat,’ is based on real events. It narrates the horrifying story of an Indian girl who gets trapped in Pakistan after being deceived into marriage. However, she fights back and attempts to break free. The Indian diplomat JP Singh plays a very crucial role in her rescue.
In the film, John Abraham is seen playing the role of the diplomat, while Sadia Khateeb who was earlier seen in movies like ‘Shikara’ and ‘Raksha Bandhan’ portrayed the part of Uzma.
Though the movie’s commercial numbers at the box office have gone down, the artists and the filmmaker are getting applauded for their performance by the audience and the critics alike.
