THIRUVANANTHPURAM: Senior Congress functionary AK Antony publicly criticised Tuesday his son Anil Antony’s decision to contest as a BJP candidate for Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha seat, saying: “He should lose, he should not win.” He repeated after a pause: “Should lose.”
Speaking at a presser, the 83-year-old former defence minister emphasised the importance of separating family and politics, while asserting his allegiance to Congress. When questioned about children of Congress leaders joining BJP, Antony expressed disapproval: “It is not an irony, it is wrong. Don’t make me say a lot about children. I haven’t learned that language.”
Reacting to his father’s remarks, Anil expressed disappointment. “He is old. I have great respect for him…But I was hurt when I saw him speaking for an anti-national MP (Anto Antony) who insulted the Army and the soldiers and tried to whitewash the terrorist activities of Pakistan,” he said, highlighting his differences with his father’s political stand.
